Description

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup gluten-free flour*
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • dash of ground nutmeg
  • dash of salt

Instructions:

*Gluten-free flours we recommend: Cup4Cup Gluten-Free AP, King Arthur Gluten-Free AP, Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free 1:1 Baking Flour

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Prepare the pan with baking spray.
  2. Stir together the gluten-free flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar.
  4. Add the applesauce and water, and combine.
  5. Slowly add the flour mixture until combined.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the pan, filling no more than 3/4 full.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes and unmold.
  9. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  10. Top with a caramel sauce or a simple glaze.
