Description

You will need:

  • your favorite pie crust and filling recipe
  • Harvest Pie Crust Cutter Set
  • rolling pin
  • plastic wrap

Instructions:

  1. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough as soon as you get it all mixed. After 15-20 minutes, place the dough on your floured surface and roll it out with the plastic wrap spread out between your rolling pin and the dough. This will ensure it handles better and that you touch it less. Roll it to about a 1/4 inch thickness.
  2. All the leaves you see are the top crust, there is no dough underneath supporting it and no egg wash to make the leaves stick together. Use cutters from our Harvest Pie Crust Cutter set to make the indented leaf and acorn shapes. Starting from the outside in, start placing the leaves in smaller concentric circles that slightly overlap. Make sure to leave little spaces between each layer for air vents.
  3. Option: To maintain this perfect decorative look, you can actually bake the leaf and acorn shapes separately from the pie and then add the decorative pie topping to your cooked pie. This technique assures that each shape is evenly browned and filling has not bubbled over the top and sides. Also, it's a bit easier to decorate with baked pieces instead of the raw dough!
