Description
You will need:
- Rolling pin
- Knife
- Small round cookie cutter
- Black fondant
- Orange fondant
- White fondant (optional)
- Gold luster dust
- Paint brushes
- Vodka
Instructions:
Create the Brim of the Hat
- Cut a piece of black fondant.
- Use the rolling pin to roll the fondant out to a thickness of approximately 1/8" of an inch thick.
- Using the small round cookie cutter, cut out circles of fondant.
Create the Top of the Hat
- Cut a piece of black fondant.
- Roll the fondant into a 1" ball until it is even and smooth. Once it is smooth, begin shaping the ball into a cone by pinching one end.
- Continue until the hat has one pointed end and a wider flattened end. You can flatten it by pressing against a flat surface.
- Add a bend to the top. To create creases, curve the hat at its center.
- Once it is shaped, set it aside to dry.
- To attach the pieces, apply a light coat of water to the brim of the hat. Place the top onto the brim and gently press them together.
- Set aside to harden.
Adding a Buckle
- Take a small amount of orange and roll it into a log.
- Using the rolling pin, roll it out to about 1/8" thick and cut a 1/4" strip to go around the hat.
- Apply a thin coat of water to the back side of the strip and wrap it around the hat, cutting away any excess.
- To create the buckle, cut a tiny piece of the orange or white fondant.
- Roll it into a thin rope. Wrap the rope into a tiny square, and cut away the excess fondant.
- To achieve the gold sheen, apply some gold luster dust to the buckle using a paint brush and a little bit of vodka.
- Once dry, press the buckle into the belt on the hat.
