Description

You will need:

  • Rolling pin
  • Knife
  • Small round cookie cutter
  • Black fondant
  • Orange fondant
  • White fondant (optional)
  • Gold luster dust
  • Paint brushes
  • Vodka

Instructions:

Create the Brim of the Hat

  1. Cut a piece of black fondant.
  2. Use the rolling pin to roll the fondant out to a thickness of approximately 1/8" of an inch thick.
  3. Using the small round cookie cutter, cut out circles of fondant.

Create the Top of the Hat

  1. Cut a piece of black fondant.
  2. Roll the fondant into a 1" ball until it is even and smooth. Once it is smooth, begin shaping the ball into a cone by pinching one end.
  3. Continue until the hat has one pointed end and a wider flattened end. You can flatten it by pressing against a flat surface.
  4. Add a bend to the top. To create creases, curve the hat at its center.
  5. Once it is shaped, set it aside to dry.
  6. To attach the pieces, apply a light coat of water to the brim of the hat. Place the top onto the brim and gently press them together.
  7. Set aside to harden.

Adding a Buckle

  1. Take a small amount of orange and roll it into a log.
  2. Using the rolling pin, roll it out to about 1/8" thick and cut a 1/4" strip to go around the hat.
  3. Apply a thin coat of water to the back side of the strip and wrap it around the hat, cutting away any excess.
  4. To create the buckle, cut a tiny piece of the orange or white fondant.
  5. Roll it into a thin rope. Wrap the rope into a tiny square, and cut away the excess fondant.
  6. To achieve the gold sheen, apply some gold luster dust to the buckle using a paint brush and a little bit of vodka.
  7. Once dry, press the buckle into the belt on the hat.
