You Will Need:
- Maple Leaf Cookie Cutter
- Brown Sparkling Sugar
- Red Sparkling Sugar
- Orange Sparkling Sugar
- Green Sparkling Sugar
- Parchment Paper
- Pre-made pie dough or homemade pie dough
- One Egg
- 1 bag mini chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Heat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Whisk one egg with a teaspoon of water and set it aside.
- On a floured surface, roll out the prepared pie crust to about 1/8" thick. Use a maple leaf cookie cutter (or other leaf cookie cutter) to make as many dough pairs as possible.
- For each pocket, spread about 4 teaspoons of mini chocolate chips on a leaf, leaving a 1/2" margin at the edge.
- Brush the egg wash onto the edges, place a second leaf on top, and press the edges to seal. Brush the top with the egg wash and sprinkle generously with colored sparkling sugars. Lightly tap the sugar crystals so they stay on the pie crust.
- Bake the leaves on a parchment-covered cookie sheet until their edges are just beginning to brown, about 12 minutes.
- Let them rest on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before moving them to a cooling rack. Let them cool completely on the rack.
